The other day I watched the trailer for the upcoming, all-star movie Cloud Atlas. From what I know about the movie, it is about six different time zones and character’s actions connecting them. The cast includes Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Jim Broadbent and Susan Sarandon, amongst others. Since my first viewing of the trailer , a lot of people have been talking about it, and the opinion seems firmly divided. So I want to know, what are your initial thoughts of the trailer? Do you think that the film will be bold or extremely confusing? Whatever your answer or view, please give it.
What are your thoughts on the Cloud Atlas trailer?

I think it’ll be great. It’ll definitely take more than one simple viewing though.

I’m a little divided on it as well. I’ve never really been a fan of the Wachowski siblings (I liked The Matrix but hated Speed Racer), but the idea of Cloud Atlas just sounds really cool. I don’t want to have too high expectations, but it does look pretty good. Plus I’m a fan of Tom Hanks. Nice post.

This looks intriguing. I’m debating whether I should read the book before I go see this. When I first saw the “Extended First Look” I wasn’t completely into it. Last week, I saw the trailers and man, it looked really promising. Plus, it has a good solid cast that I like: Tom Hanks, Jim Broadbent, Susan Sarandon.

It looks amazing. The cast is outstanding and so are the visuals. It definitely has the potential to be very confusing, but I hope it isn’t. Really, really looking forward to this one.

I think Cloud Atlas looks overtop and ridiculous. It may look visually stunning but it just looks like too much. I don’t find it interesting at all. Maybe the trailer didn’t sell me but I’m still going to give the film a wath regardless

I think the film looks too ambitious to be covered in the time allotted for it. Almost seems like it would work better as a TV miniseries. I’ll hold off judging it too much until more comes out about it, though.

Well, it’ll be different certainly. I think either very good or really very bad. Interested at any rate though.

I hadn’t seen it, but in order to join the debate, I just watched it. Wow…how many plots and subplots can one movie have. If they can pull this off, it would be amazing. However, I agree with Andy, this might have been a better mini-series so they could really delve into all that is going on. I’m curious to see how it comes across though.

It certainly looks like an ambitious gamble.

visiually, i’m intrigued by the trailer when I first saw it, so much is going on. How they overcome the confusion of so many plots, its so thickly layered. I don’t want it to be more about style over substance, which could easily happen.

Cloud Atlas was a success and a failure simultaneously. For me, the highlights were housed within the solid makeup applications, cinematography, and frequent, momentary comedy. I would also like to bring attention to the “Neo Seoul” timeframe of the film, and how wonderfully it was presented and executed.

One of the best trailers I’ve ever seen! I’ve seen the movie and I still watch the trailer sometimes (the extended one).
