I just picked up a television listings and have been scouring to see what is on over this festive period. Which sparked my curiosity about what you all will be watching. Is there anything specific you always watch every Christmas? Or is it the luck of the draw.

I’ve lost my copy of The Polar Express and I’m feeling a little panicky about that.

I love your new gravatar Vinnie! Here’s my must watch list:
The Polar Express
The Santa Clause movies
Gremlins I & II
How the Grinch Stole Christmas- both the animated cartoon and the Jim Carrey version.
Meet Me in St. Louis- I know this isn’t technically a Christmas movie, but it has I’m dreaming of a White Christmas.
Holiday Inn
White Christmas
It’s a Wonderful Life
A Christmas Carol

Thanks for the gravatar love. Wonderful shout on Meet Me in St. Louis, a real classic.

Die Hard and Nightmare Before Christmas are solidified picks. Not sure what others will be chosen yet.

Die Hard is a great choice. I love it.

I completely agree with Kim: great new gravatar😊
As for the movies: I always love watching either Gremlins, The Santa Clauss movies, some version of Scrooge (there are so many), Home Alone and of course Die Hard 1 & 2 😊
And I just learned of anime movie that I haven’t seen yet but that I did not know was about Christmas: Tokyo Godfathers. Which I hope to see this Christmas now 😊

The picture is an old one of me. Home Alone, it wouldn’t be Christmas without it. And who doesn’t love a Scrooge movie?

Alistair Sim was the definitive Scrooge for me. 🙂

He was very good, but I also liked George C. Scott’s performance in the 1984 version 😊

Scott is very good, but I suppose I am an old fogey at heart! 🙂

Elf is a must. A Christmas Story, Christmas Vacation, and Just Friends are a few others. But my personal favorite has always been It’s A Wonderful Life. Like the new profile pic too, by the way. 😃

I will be avoiding all Christmas films. As much as I can, given that other people will be here. Mainly because I am a Christmas grump! 🙂
I will have to get used to not seeing your Godfather image anymore…
Cheers, Pete.

You’re not a grump. I just felt like a change in my image.

Love the new avatar, Vin! I will be watching It’s a Wonderful Life but the rest is a luck of the draw. Once I binge watched all the Planet of the Apes movies, the originals on Christmas. Christmas with the apes!

Ooh, now that sounds like a great Christmas. Enjoy it Meg.

I’m such a Grinch…I don’t really watch any! I used to do the Fred/Ginger movies with their glitter and glide.

Honestly, whatever is good on TV or given the fact that we’re living in dark times towards the end of net neutrality. I’m thinking of re-watching… Salo, or the 120 Days of Sodom.

Usually A Christmas Story and Gremlins. Yeah Gremlins is about violent creatures going on a rampage but it always reminds me of Christmas and that’s why I love it!

Gremlins is a definite Christmas movie, with a devious and devilish side. Not typically cute Yuletide movie but entertaining in so many ways.

There are a few that I try to watch every year. I saw “It’s a wonderful life” two weeks ago with a live orchestra rendition of the score, and watched Love Actually this past weekend. I’ve yet to see The Holiday, Arthur Christmas and A Christmas Story this season

I don’t really have a go-to Christmas film. A few years ago a friend got me to watch Die Hard. Growing up I watched Home Alone a fair bit. Thinking about ‘Christmas films’ earlier this week I remembered the 1999 film Go, which I watched a few times and really enjoyed when it came out.
In terms of new films, I’ll be watching the new Star Wars on Monday, tickets are purchased, and I’m looking forward to Call Me By Your Name which doesn’t come out until Boxing Day in Australia for some reason. Also, there’s a screening of It’s a Wonderful Life on Christmas Eve during the day which I’m tempted to attend as I’ve never seen it.

My workmate was going on and on about it. He and his wife watch it every year as their Christmas movie.
I’ve always found the idea of a winter Christmas fascinating. Having lived in the southern hemisphere all my life (South America and then Australia) a winter Christmas has always felt both relatable, due to film and TV depictions, and worlds away.

I’ll watch the classics, but my go-to film is Home Alone 2, Lost in NY. Mainly because of my personal fascination with the city. Years ago, I took my teens to NYC and we did the tour of all the places that Kevin visited. Memorable.

Oh wow. Now I want to do that tour.

Probably just Star Wars, I’ve seen it already and I’m ready for a few more sessions haha. Other than that I may try to change a few classic films on Netflix and possibly squeeze in Edward Scissorhands and The Nightmare Before Christmas as they are my favourite films to watch around this time of year.

Nothing wrong with cliched choices. The two you said are classics for a reason.

Each year I have plans to watch a whole lot of Christmas movies i.e. I usually really feel like watching Love Actually, The Family Stone and similar…but never manage to get around to it. And so…once again…that Christmas weekend I’m going to watch The Family Stone, Love Actually (or so I plan)…

I tend to watch the Bond movies or Lord of the Rings. But I’m searching for other things to watch too.

There’s a reference to Christmas in The World Is Not Enough so there’s your theme. Besides Christmas is a tradition and so is Bond and usually comes at Christmas too. You’re right Lord of the Rings often comes on TV this time of year too.

Yes, I remember that reference well. It wouldn’t be Christmas without Bond.

Home Alone is one of those movies that just lightens up your mood of Christmas cheer for the season and all around. It is a time when I do like hearing more of the music in movies such as Holiday Inn ( 1942), Some Like it Hot ( 1959) and An American in Paris (1951) amongst a few. Now if only I had a fire log burning..
I hope you’ll have a nice Christmas viewing over the festive season and the New Year Vinnieh.
Sincerely Sonea

Since Shashi Kapoor died this month, I’ve been watching quite a few Kapoor films on Youtube. The last one I saw was A MATTER OF INNOCENCE (1967). Though the quality on Youtube wasn’t that great, I highly recommend it. It co-stars Hayley Mills and Trevor Howard!!!! Great underrated British classic!!

I’ll be bookmarking that on YouTube. Sorry to hear about the death of Kapoor.

I always re-watch Home Alone I, II. I probably saw them millions of times already, but for me these two films are just THE festive season films. I also love watching Jim Carrey’s voiced A Christmas Carol, Gremlins and Batman Returns. Other than that, whatever the TV will bring.

Home Alone is a bonafide classic. Gremlins is fun, festive and frightening.
