I was saddened to read of the passing of Powers Boothe at the age of 68 today. For me, he was the essence of a character actor. He was the guy who would pop up in movies and with usually a short amount of time, make his presence felt. He was a dab hand at villain roles and I always enjoyed seeing him in a movie. Thanks for all the great movies and roles you had Powers Boothe. This post is a tribute to his greatness that will be missed.

Sad news. Powers was one of the best character actors there has ever been in my opinion. I love his performance as Marlowe in the miniseries Philip Marlowe: Private Eye. R.I.P Powers Boothe.

He just had that knack for making even the smallest part memorable. And he had those intense eyes that really made you take notice, especially when he played someone evil.

I fucking love this guy. He’s one of those guys who can’t suck. You can put him in a bad movie and he’ll often be the best thing in it. He’s that fucking good.

You said exactly what I’m thinking. He was such a good actor who stole the show many times. His presence will be missed.

Oh no! What sad news. I loved him as Curly Bill in Tombstone. But, in general, a great character actor.

First I had heard of this. I loved that guy in so many roles. Too young to die too.
(Only three years older than me!)

Yes, too young to die. He nailed a lot of his role, particularly the ones where he showed off considerable menace.

This guy was a very, very good actor. I think it os one of those actors that pretty much everyone has seen at some point or other in a movie, but probably don’t know by name. You are definitely right about him playing great villains. There were some very memorable ones (Cultleader Jim Jones being one of them). Sad news indeed.

The amount of people who knew his face bit not his name is a lot. I am always that person who points him out in movies to others. His skill in playing good villains will be missed.

Powers Boothe was always a great actor. Did you ever see Southern Comfort and Extreme Prejudice which were both directed by that great action director Walter Hill? He was one of the most awesome actors in the world. He will be missed very much 😦 Anyway, keep up the great work as always 🙂
