There are many stars who have a distinctive and memorable voice, if I listed them all I would need a book. So the question today is, which actor or actress has the best voice? Which star has a voice that you could listen to without getting bored? It can be someone really famous in the acting business or someone not so well-known. Whatever the answer, please give it and feel free to comment.
Here is a list of actors and actresses I consider to have great voices off the top of my head;
Susan Sarandon
Tom Hanks
Morgan Freeman
James Stewart
Katharine Hepburn
Al Pacino
Marlon Brando
Bette Davis

It may be a well worn old cliche, but I could happily sit and listen to Orson Welles or Alastair Sim read the telephone directory.

The voice of velvet. Seriously you can’t replicate it in today’s society. You can’t forget Hitchcock!

Great list. I;d have to agree with the previous comments (James Earl Jones, Orson Welles) and just add Sigourney Weaver. She did the narration for the American version of the Planet Earth TV series. She has one of those “important sounding” voices.

Morgan Freeman of course. Agree with Mark about Sigourney Weaver. Also, Vera Farmiga, Kevin Spacey, Christopher Evan Welch (he narrated Vicky Cristina Barcelona), Cary Grant…

Fun question! I agree with many already posted and would add Liam Neeson and Jeremy Irons. But I’m a sucker for British accents…

I have a friend who rountinely says “I wish Morgan Freeman narrated my life.” I agree.
I really like Peter O’Toole, but Christopher Plummer and Leonard Nimoy are good too. Also George Clooney and Clint Eastwood because of the hilarious raspiness (man there are soooo many!). Marlon Brando’s my favorite actor EVER so I can’t argue with that one. (STELLA! HEY STELLA!)
It’s hard to nail down the best, because it depends on what the voice is used for, really. Some situations just call for British, so you would need to get someone with a British accent, but then if you needed a black guy talking you would get James Earl Jones or Morgan Freeman…

Best voices for what? Morgan Freeman has a classic baritone. He could read the phone book and it would sound fantastic. Ozzie Davis, Orson Wells both (among many others) had magnificent voices. Hanks has a very expressive voice. Not so deep, but very fluid, music, and Merryl Streep can sound like anyone she wants to … a remarkable ability to hear and reproduce accents. Hugh Laurie has a similar ability. Many of the Aussie and British actors seem to have much better ears for regional accents than American have. Liam Neeson, another example. Good question!

Many excellent choices, but egad why, oh why Katherine Hepburn or Meryl Streep? But hats off to the mention of Alistair Sim (watch “Green for Danger”) and James Mason!
And how could we omit on such a list all three of Richard Burton, Sean Connery, and the smooth-tongued Boris Karloff (just listen to the narration of the perennial cartoon favorite “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”)?
Two particular choices of mine would be Audrey Hepburn and Zara Turner (the latter of whom is not particularly well-known!). I’ll also put an oar in for Jody Foster and Scarlett Johanssen, whose seductive voices always draw the ear!
I don’t know what you’d all think of Caroline Catz’s voice (she, of “Doc Martin” fame), but for me, it’s aswim with a wholesome “come hither” that makes me want – like Heinlein – to drop one wing and run in circles!
Lastly, a quick word for June Alyson and Hayley Mills. And if we are after the merely “distinctive”, what about Arnie? 😉
But now I’ve surely used up my time!
Cheers.
