Recently, I took up tennis. I’ve always been fascinated by it, but never thought of taking it up. I think I’m on to something good. But I want to know your opinions on tennis. Are you fans of the sport? Any favourite players?
I was never a tennis player, but I always loved the Jimmy Connors/John McEnroe rivalry. You’re too young to remember them, but it was fantastic. Both guys were kinda black sheep in the stodgy, pretentious world of high level tennis, and made it really fun to watch. Loved Andre Agassi too.
I am aware of both. I found a documentary to watch about tennis history and they were featured. They seemed to bring something different to the world of tennis. McEnroe had a good rivalry with Bjorn Borg too.
I used to play tennis in high school Vinnie. It’s a great sport and loads of fun. I’ve been watching Wimbledon and rooting for my favorite player, Serena Williams.
I was hopeless at tennis, and haven’t watched it since the days of Borg. But it’s great exercise, and might be a good way to meet the woman of your dreams too! 🙂
Cheers mate, Pete..
I was a terrible tennis player, though I tried throughout my youth to get better at it. I work out at a gym now with other women in their 70’s. I surprise myself by loving things like kettle bells and weights.
tennis is a great sport, but it takes a lot of time to build those skills. I found doing some wind sprints after my runs, helps me move around the court faster.
The tennis players I liked are the Williams Sisters, Maria Sharapova, Martina Navratalova, Billie Jean King, John McEnroe, Bjorn Borg, and Jimmy Connors. Those were the greats. McEnroe is my favorite due to his outbursts.
Yes I am a fan Back in the Late 70’s my mom had from row seat at Roland Garros I saw Jimmy Connors, Bjorn Borg , John McEnroe etc…. Good times. She worked at a sport company were they had box seat right up front centre court. i still followed tennis now and then especially Roland Garros the US open and Wimbledon. I even played but now I can’t find someone to play tennis with.
I think this is such a great thing that you have taken up tennis. I don’t play much but I adore watching. Whoever on this planet is not a fan of Federer? I think everyone should be 🙂
I am not a huge fan of this sport. However, when I was younger, I used to play table tennis. I was required to do so because of the physical education program in my school. I quite enjoyed it.
Hey Vinnie, awesome to hear that you have taken up the game of tennis. Personally, I love the game and have been playing since I was 10 years old. I am turning 50 next year so that is a very long time of playing and hitting millions of tennis balls. You can say that I am an addict of the game! There is an article posted in Forbes that claims that tennis can make you live 9.5 years longer than someone who doesn’t play. I can probably come up with all the reason why but the article did a nice job of highlighting the research. My favorite player growing up with Ivan Lendl. When he retired, I got into watching the Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi, Michael Chang, etc. era. After they retired, I began to watch the Roger Federer, Rafa Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, Stan Warwinka, etc. era and now we are watching the new era of players but their coaches are all the great players of the past generations such as Lendl is coaching Sasha Zverev (who just won the ATP title at the end of the season). The women side has been just as compelling over the years. Lots of legends from Chris Evert & Martina Navratilova, etc. to Monica Seles & Steffi Graf, etc. to Venus & Serena Williams, etc. to the new ladies that are trying to rule the court.
As a side bar, I am a full-time tennis coach so I spend more time on the court than most people so I better know what I am talking about. Anyhow, sorry to be so long winded, but like I said, “I LOVE the game of tennis” and welcome anyone who loves the game too! Best wishes with your aspirations for the game whether it is to be a good recreational player, club player or tournament level player. Always remember that “practice does not make perfect, it makes permanent! Only perfect practice makes perfect!” And lastly, “repetition is the mother of skill!” Signing off. Don
