The weather where I am has been pretty bad, with almost non stop rain. Whenever it is a dat like this, I busy myself with thoughts regarding media, movies and television. Today my mind came on the trends in movie and television that are growing tiresome. For me, reality TV is a real drag as I find it false and overly manufactured. But what trend in movies and television is getting a bit old hat or pointless to you? Hopefully this image of me contemplating helps.

I’m getting so tired of the all the series and films about the Marvel characters. They seem to be everywhere at the moment. I have no interest in comic book characters besides Batman. I also agree about the reality series. Who even watches things like Big Brother for example? I have never understood the appeal of such series.

I don’t mind the Marvel films, but I will admit that there is so many of them. With reality TV, the people all come off as shallow amd venal.

We’re swamped in Marvel adaptations. Even Batman is outstaying his welcome on the screen. I am enjoying the series Gotham though, all about young Bruce Wayne being raised by Alfred.
Surely there are writers out there filled with original ideas for quality series and shows? Why not give them a chance instead of making things that we’re already familiar with?

I’m totally with you on your last point. More unique movies and television needs to be out there. Not junk.

I’m with you on so-called ‘reality’ TV. Celebrity shit, stupid scenarios, false and contrived situations, mindless, stupid, vacuous people. I hate the stupid bastards with a vengeance. Grr! I don’t even know who the supposed celebrities are!
I have also had enough of ‘home improvement’ shows, ‘buying and selling houses’ shows, and bloody antiques rubbish like ‘Flog It’ too.
I could go on, but my blood pressure would rise…
Cheers mate, Pete.

I mean, there’s too many of those shows. And it annoys me when they get airtime and things that are actually good get shoved to the back.

Someone somewhere will say Superhero movies! But not me!! 🙂 Totally agree on reality TV shows, also anything hosted by Ant & Deck but I don’t watch them anyway so I don’t bother too much. Food programmes! Way too many. Period drama’s – upper class, lower class, servants, midwives, police, all are old hat. Think that covers it 😀 😀

I actually don’t mind a period drama when done well. I get too hungry watching food programmes.

I’ve hated “reality” tv from the get-go. All of them. Mainly due to the narcissistic boobs that all of those shows highlight and encourage full on douchebaggery from. I blame those damn Kardashians for all of it. For the life of me, I can not figure out what people see in them. 😃
LikeLiked by 3 people
Yes, douchebags and fake boobs seem to abound. It really doesn’t send out a good message.

It’d beyond annoying. And fake boobs suck! 😃

I mean, I have nothing against plastic surgery. It can just look extreme and not at all pleasant in the end.

I am not a fan of any plastic surgery, unless it’s to repair an accident or something. Natural, and going with what you got, is my taste. Especially when it comes to breasts. Just one dudes opinion though. 😃

Different tastes are what makes the world go ’round. I’m sure there’s plenty of people who like bigger or firmer or whateverer, no matter how that happens. To me though, there’s nothing sexier than a natural woman. 😃

Remakes for me. Just find them tired and unimaginative. In film and there’s been an increasing trend in TV too.

I knew remakes would make an appearance. You are quite right there is a common glut to have a new version of everything lately.

Hmm, I guess superhero movies could be the thing I could say, but it would be a lie. So far I have enjoyed every release that Marvel has done. Yes there are definitely way too many of them at times, but what is astonishing to me is the fact that they are still a lot of fun and not seem to diminish in quality in any way.
If I were to name one thing that I get tired of it’s the reboots/remakes of films/tv series. That for me is getting seriously annoying. They usually are bad and just don’t manage to capture the spirit of the original.

Superhero movies are extremely popular and I do love a number of them. But I do find we are flooded with too many at a time. Remakes can be catastrophic as they usually end up completely ruining the original.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yeah, there are a couple of examples of good remakes, but usually they are a trainwreck lol.
As for superhero movies definitely think there are too many of them out there at the moment. But as I said I have yet to watch a really bad Marvel movie 😀

A good remake is difficult to find, but there are some.

It surprises me that there’s a market for them. I don’t get it. I don’t watch television, rarely ever, unless it’s a sporting event like a baseball game. Otherwise, I rent movies on Netflix and Amazon. I pick the television series and watch it when I feel like it. Nice post, Vinnieh.

I hate trends. I don’t understand why hip-hop or pop have to use Autotune. I don’t understand today’s haircuts. I don’t get it. Plus, I never got on board with streaming services. Thankfully, I have a local library nearby to find movies that aren’t on TV to go get. If there is a movie that I want to see but isn’t available on TV or in some physical form. I’ll download it illegally even though I’m still not used to watching films on my laptop.

I use Netflix frequently, but I can totally understand your thoughts. It is how I feel with music, I like having a CD as its a physical thing.

Here in the U.S., we are getting sick of the political talk shows, on what used to be news networks. It is cheap programming…hire a few voices with a deliberate bias and watch them talk it out !! And what used to be “Headline News” is now what I call the “murder channel”…Forensic Files for hours on end. All in all, commercial TV has become crap. Too bad. 150 Channels, and nothing on.

I’m definitely with you on reality TV, but my biggest bug-bear at the moment is re-telling the same stories over and over again without having anything new to add to them, I mean, all remakes, in general, tend to piss me off, but particularly ones that have nothing new to add to the story (a new setting and time period don’t count, it doesn’t add anything to the story itself). There’s a particular problem with that in genre filmmaking, I think. I would love an original high fantasy series or sci-fi series, but is that going to happen…Probably not 😦

If you’re going to remake something, at least have the gumption to try something new. Otherwise, there is no need to do it.

I’m with Alex on the remakes and everyone who said reality tv. And remakes have bled over into tv as well as film here in the US. I’ve been watching tv series from Netflix and Amazon, which bring us options from around the world: Scandanavia, Britain, Australia, etc. and when all else fails… read a good book!

As far as reality TV goes, I have my shows. I love The Amazing Race and have watched Aussie, Canadian, US and Latin-American versions with my partner over the years. We love travel so it is right up our alley. I’ve also recently gotten into Survivor, since the Aussie version started last year. I don’t really watch any others, but I do put the occasional cooking competition on in the background to accompany me when I’m doing something else.
I guess as far as TV and film there are some dialogue-related cliches that annoy me and pull me out of a scene.

Are there particular shows that you dislike? I agree that the genre had gotten a bit saturated, but most have. As soon as something becomes popular there are a hundred more, most of them inferior.

I’m not a big fan of reality tv either except for shows like Dancing With the Stars, The Voice, and America’s Got Talent. As far as Marvel movies I have to admit I’m not sick of them yet. I don’t like pointless remakes like the recent Tom Cruise debacle, The Mummy.

I don’t mind shows with a bit of competition like some of the ones you’ve mentioned. Pointless remakes are the bane of my life.

😠 I’m a bit ambivalent about the new Jumanji coming out. I like Dwayne Johnson and from the trailer I saw, it looks like they mix things up a bit from the original, but still… When I think of Jumanji I think of Robin Williams. I don’t know.😕

WAY too many damn sequels and remakes of movies that didn’t warrant it. Feels like cold calculation, straight-up.

European films, my friend. Hollywood is (by and large*) evaporating into its own butt.
* There are still good ideas in Hollywood, and good original films being made, it just seems that the overwhelming majority is pap we didn’t need. And yet people still pay to see it, so they keep making it…

I also do not enjoy reality television at all. It is so overdone and it seems all fake to me. I feel most people only do it for their time of fame so we don’t get actual passion for acting.

I am getting tired of the fact that a lot of movies just have female actors to be the love interest of the male leads and nothing more. It had come to a point where female characters with some substance in their character is hard to come by! I do movie reviews too and fund it really exasperating to sws that.

I like to see my characters with substance too. I think in recent years, there has been a surge in strong female roles.
