Over the years, I’ve seen that a lot of bloggers make it their mission to see films that are ones everyone should have seen. I am no exception to this and will be doing just that. I mean we all have those movies that we should have seen but haven’t for whatever reason. Below is a list of films of that sort that I plan to watch and review to continue my learning as a student of cinema.
- Casablanca
- Escape From New York
- Big Trouble in Little China
- A Streetcar Named Desire
- Cinema Paradiso
- Notorious
- Gilda
- Giant
- Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
- The Sting
- Safe
- Nashville
- The Big Country
- Rebel Without a Cause
- Sabrina
- Funny Face
- Funny Girl
Enjoy! All good films. From the list I will say you are in for a treat with the following: Streetcar Named Desire. Notorious. The Sting. Casablanca. Rebel Without A Cause and The Big Country.

I think everyone has a few movies they’ve heard of, but not seen. My list is probably longer than most. I trust your judgement and look forward to those movies.

Agreed. Was just about to mention those too. The Sting is awesome

There are a couple on the list I haven’t seen like Cinema Paradiso, Safe, Nashville and SAbrina but the others are wonderful. I am sure you will enjoy them.

Thanks for that heads up. It’s fun catching up with good cinema.

Yes, especially when they are from a time when the story was the priority not the special effects.

That’s what I have found. The writing and acting is usually of a finer quality because there was nothing else to fall back on.

Good list, Vinnie. A few of these I’ve seen, but plenty I need to get round to as well!
Casablanca is really fantastic — the kind of movie you think can’t live up to the hype, but then it does. Notorious (presuming you mean the Hitchcock movie) is a personal favourite too.

Ive been assured that Casablanca is worth it. Yes I was referring to the Hitchcock Notorious.

Absolutely love Big Trouble in Little China. Cheesy as cheddar, Kurt Russel is brilliantly hammy and funny. Brings back good memories 😊

And Casablanca, of course.

Casablanca and The Sting are my favorites from the list, but you have some great viewing ahead. I had not heard of “Safe”–is that the 1995 movie with Julianne Moore?

I’ve got so much catching up to do. Yes the Safe I’m talking about is the one starring Julianne Moore.

Cheers, Pete.

Every exam period in college, the local theater played “Casablanca.” I think I will always associate it with the ordeal of studies and the relief of movie going.

This is an excellent list. The ones I haven’t seen are Gilda, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, The Sting, Notorious, The Big Country, Rebel Without a Cause, Funny Face, Funny Girl, and Sabrina. I hope to see all of them except for Funny Girl. I’m not a fan of Barbra Streisand.

I didn’t know she’d sang it. I think Bowie is one of those artists no one should attempt to cover.

There’s some great Bowie covers but this is not one of them and Bowie didn’t like it. I just find Streisand annoying. Plus, I can’t stand that nose of hers. I just liked the fact that Robert Smith destroyed her in South Park.

Escape from New York is awesome! You just can’t go wrong with John Carpenter and a star studded cast including, Kurt Russell, Lee Van Cleef, Ernest Borgnine, Donald Pleasence, Isaac Hayes, Harry Dean Stanton and Adrienne Barbeau!
It’s cheesy and over-the-top with a side order of kick-ass!

Wow, wasn’t aware of all the big names in the cast. Now I’m even more stoked for it, Paul.

I knew that Russell was the star, but sounds like the supporting cast is pretty bad ass too.

Carpenter is generally very overrated. He did Dark Star, which was original, but his later things were way more commercial…
