Many of you may have realised that I’ve been watching quite a few films starring the lovely Drew Barrymore. Although there are some who largely just consider her a romantic comedy queen, from going through her credits I’ve noticed how versatile and adventurous she has been as an actress. And while I’ve always been a fan, I’ve gained a new-found appreciation for her talent as of late from sifting through her varied filmography. She is for my money, quite an underrated actress in my eyes. So the question is, which role of hers is your favourite?

I mostly saw her as a kid in E.T, Firestarter then Donnie Darko and Charlies Angels (which sucked). Obviously she’s done a bit better since then! 🙂

Geeze I’m terrible at remembering names.. but it’s the movie where she is constantly reliving the same day. I love that movie, even if Adam Sandler is in it, it’s probably his best movie too;)

I’m not the biggest fan of Adam Sandler, but he’s at least tolerable in 50 First Dates as well as The Wedding Singer. Funny that they both star Drew Barrymore as the love interest.

As we have already mentioned her sexy turn in ‘Poison Ivy’, I will go with the rarely mentioned film, ‘Whip It’. A roller-skating film, if you’ve never seen it.
Best wishes, Pete.

50 First Dates and The Wedding Singer. Both with Adam Sandler. He seems to bring out something really special in her personality. In 50 I loved her look, so natural, stripped of makeup. I read they spent so much time just chilling and getting high in Hawaii filming that one. No wonder she looked so relaxed, ha ha!

So I looked up her filmography, had a good look. Asked my lovely wife if I’ve ever raved about Drew in any one role. She says no, not really. We both agree that (of the films of hers we’ve seen, which is definitely not all of them, not even close) no one would ever say ‘wow, Drew Barrymore really stretched for that role.’ Maybe it’s happened and we’ve missed it – totally possible. But in rom coms, for example, she’s perfectly fine in those roles. She can nail those easily. I dunno. We also agreed that Barrymore’s more interesting as a director and producer, taking on projects she really believes in and making them go. Having the last name Barrymore surely helps, in Hollywood, but she really takes charge there.

I had to think about this for a bit….but I’m going to go with two performances. One was E.T. It’s simply a bit of childhood memories that are playing a part in that one, but I also thought that for a child so young to be able to act in that way, was really amazing.
The other role was actually a small part, but I still thought it was an amazing performance: the opening scene of Scream. Not only did it manage to set the tione for the movie, but I thought her performance was truly heartbreaking. So…these are my picks 😊

She sold that feeling of wonder and curiosity so well in ET, as did the other kids in the film. Damn that opening of Scream is still tense and creepy. And a lot of that is due to the terror Barrymore projected. The last shot of that opening scene still haunts me.
