Simply stated, I adore Cate Blanchett. The sheer command and versatility of her work never fails to impress or surprise me. She is the definition of reliable, turning out excellent performances continually. It’s staggering to watch her perform and take on a new challenge. She’s one hell of a class act if ever there was one. If I’m honest, I’d find it hard to choose just one favourite performance from her, which is why I’m leaving it up to you wonderful people. So which of her illustrious roles gets your vote as the best?

Not sure if you’ve seen it or not, but the discovery on Netflix might be one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. Probly in my top 5 now. You should check it out!

I loved her in the Aviator. Her portrayal of Katharine Hepburn was mesmerizing. She is great in everything she does.

All of them?
He he…I really like her in all the roles she has taken on but she is fantastic as the Stepmother in Cinderella. Other roles that stand out for me are Marian Loxley in Robin Hood, Magdalena Gilkeson in The Missing, Veronica Guerin in the movie of the same name and, and, and…wow, I’ve seen her in so many movies and they all stand out!

I liked her a lot in ‘Charlotte Grey’, bur would have to go with both of her ‘Elizabeth’ films. That Queen was never captured better, and her accent was flawless too.

I need to see Charlotte Grey. Her parts in Elizabeth were something special. I enjoyed seeing her subtle emergence from young playful girl to ruthless monarch.

‘Charlotte Grey’ is not a great film, and not as good as the novel. But Cate lifts it above the run of the mill.
(It is often on TV. Film 4 was showing it just yesterday)

A lot of good performances to choose from. Her performance in Babel even if only on the screen for a short duration left a lasting impression on me. However, overall I go for Elizabeth and I guess no need to justify that choice

Oh I agree about Babel. She had a really palpable sadness to her that really made an impact. As for Elizabeth, she was transformative in that.

She’s good in everything. She was outstanding in Blue Jasmine as a woman falling apart, and her portrayal of Bob Dylan in I’m Not Here was something else.

I thought she was absolutely amazing in Veronica Guerin. That movie was so good (I did a review for it a while back), but it was her performance alone that made it an even better movie. Ofcourse her role as Galadriel was amazing as well 😊

For me it’s a tie between Elizabeth and The Gift. Here are my top 5 Cate performances: Elizabeth, Blue Jasmine, The Gift, Lord of the Rings:The Fellowship of the Ring, Veronica Guerin. Such a brilliant actress.

Elizabeth was an amazing role that she totally inhabited and announced herself as an actress to be reckoned with. The Gift has been noted to watch in the future. Just watched the trailer and it looks like my kind of film.

For me it is easy – Blue Jasmine, Blue Jasmine and Blue Jasmine once again. I love her in such other films as Elizabeth and the Aviator, but, for me, her performance in Blue Jasmine was something out of this world.

I didn’t mind her in Oscar and Lucinda. I didn’t much like the movie but I thought her performance was pretty good. Of course, Lord of the Rings, she was awesome though didn’t get that much screen time.

How can you possibly pick? I’ve never seen her in anything and thought “meh that was ok”. Everything I’ve seen her in is rich and full. Notes on a Scandal is another brilliant performance in addition to the ones people have already mentioned.

Such a tough choice. Ultimately, I have to go with Blue Jasmine. She’s just that good in it. For a deeper cut, I choose Notes on a Scandal. Wish more people talked about that one.

Ooh hard!! This may be a weird choice, but the other day I watched the Live action Cinderella and she was so good as the stepmother that I didn’t recognise her at all. So I’d put that up there. But I’d probably have to go with Galadriel, because I love Lord of the Rings so much!!

She’s a real chameleon who gets deeply into a role and completely inhabits it. The love for Lord of the Rings is understandable, they are truly epic examples of cinema and storytelling.
