I was deeply saddened to read of the passing of the iconic John Hurt at the age of 77. He was an acting that I highly admired for his presence and of course that gravelly voice. Just looking over his film credits, he was extremely prolific and successful. He really made his mark of cinema and audiences, and I will remember him for that. For me, he was a class act all around and his appearance in movies were always ones I enjoyed. May his soul rest in pace and his wonderful memory live on through his movies.
May his soul rest in peace!

Lots of good tributes around today, V, including yours.
He was a great actor. And also a very nice man, it always seemed.
He became something of a local hero here too, after coming to live in Norfolk.
Best wishes, Pete.

It’s a shame that he didn’t get ten more years, but he left a great legacy behind him.

I saw him first in The Naked Civil Servant back in ’75, a stand-out, captivating performance.

You never saw his face, but his performance as the Elephant Man…remarkable ! It’s the one I will remember. And maybe…that scene in Alien.

The Elephant Man is heart wrenching stuff, made more so by his performance in it. And that scene in Alien is the definition of iconic.

He had so many great, iconic roles — most actors would be pretty special if they had one or two parts as memorable as his, and he’s got like a dozen. One of the best-ever voices, too. He’ll be sorely missed.

It is hard to chose a favourite role, because he was good in just about anything. And you couldn’t have asked for a better or more engaging voice!

He will be missed as he’s one of my favorites. He’s never given a bad performance no matter how flawed or poorly written his characters can be. Plus, I love the fact that he’s done cameo for 2 Mel Brooks films. One as Jesus Christ and the other parodying his death in Alien. He’s crossed over many generations which is I think is key to an actor’s longevity and brilliance. We may know him for this role or that role or playing Ollivander in the Harry Potter movies. He’s just done so much that anyone wishes they could do. R.I.P. John.

Great post 🙂 It is very sad that John Hurt died 😦 He was great in The Elephant Man, Alien and many others. I also thought he was great in Sam Peckinpah’s final film The Osterman Weekend. If you have not seen it check it out 🙂 John Hurt is a true talent that will definitely be missed 😦 Anyway, keep up the great work as always 🙂

Such a massive loss to cinema. He always left his mark, whether it was through his smaller roles or lead performances. Was watching him just the other day in Jackie.
