I noticed that the musical content on my blog had been a bit lacking of late, so I decided to correct that anomaly. Here are some of the songs and music that I’ve been listening to recently. My taste is very wide in music.
Big list. Van Morrison, Adele, Corinne Bailey Ray, Madonna, Bowie, Elvis Costello, Otis Redding, many more too of course. For groups, I prefer the older ones like Steely Dan, The Eagles, The Jam, Swing Out Sister, and loads more. I also like Clean Bandit, Artful Dodger, Baby D, and lots of old Soul, Northern Soul, and Motown of course.
A pretty wide selection then. I have a fondness for jazz which is down to my Grandparents. On the other end of the spectrum, there is my like for The Doors and The Who which stems from my dad. And Eurthymics and Madonna because of my mother.
I have all Anastacias albums, so love that song. The Alannah Myles album that that song came off- there are some even better songs on it, though that was the main single. Great album which she followed up with a really poor one sadly!
The Verve track is good but overplayed and overrated. The Madonna song is something I like as I think anything she did from her first album to Music is essential. Everything else after that, with the exception of “Hung Up” is just ugh…. Coldplay, boring. Gipsy Kings…. SI, SI, SI, SI, SI, SI!!!! Never could get into Anastacia but I do like that Alannah Myles song. Right now, I’m listening to some Bowie, Leonard Cohen, and some new wave like the Cars and Blondie.
Bad Girl is such an underrated Madonna song, I can never shake the feeling of tragedy and sadness that the song has. Gipsy Kings have boundless energy particularly in that song which has been known to make me shake my hips at many a party!
She certainly was. I first saw her when she preformed at a shopping centre in 2000 and she didn’t come back to Australia for a proper concert until 2015!
Yeah, the 80s was the decade for the big, unforgettable chorus, which Bamboleo and Black Velvet both do really well. Another memorable Gipsy King song is Volare from their 1989 album.
Oh nice ones, love Alannah Myles. Could I ask for a request for yr blog. A greatest music of movie composer? I love Hans Zimmer and John Barry (his work in Out oF Africa is amazing).
I am shouting ‘YES’ to all of those, except Coldplay of course. I never got them at all, but I know that’s just me.
Cheers, Pete.

I appreciate the nod of approval. Is there any particular reason you are not so fond of Coldplay?

That ‘stadium band’ thing has never grabbed me. (Quuen/U2, etc) I am also not so fond of the much-loved front man.
Listening to Anastacia as I type!

I understand you Pete. And I do promote a diversity in opinion on my site.

No big deal mate. I am well-aware that I am in the minority where these massively popular groups are concerned.

Sometimes it’s nice to be different in taste. I think I’ll listen to anything as long as it’s memorable. Who are your favourite singers?

I was a big Jazz fan at one time. I still play my Miles Davis CDs, and quite a few others too.

Jazz encompasses so much, really want to break out a few of those records now.

LOVE Coldplay and the Berve! (Sorry Pete)

I too really like Coldplay. But I like to encourage different opinions with people as we would be boring if we all liked the exact same thing.

Absolutely! It’s the same with books and movies. How boring would it be if we all liked the same things?😕

We’d be like boring robots of conformity. Screw that!

No problem, Kim. I am in a minority there. That Verve track is great though!

Argh! Obviously that was supposed to be the Verve!😡

Some great songs there. “Clocks” is one of my all-time favorites, and I also love “Bittersweet Symphony”

Both are songs I could listen to relentlessly.

Not big on any of these, but seeing as I have a disappointingly narrow taste in music, that’s no surprise. Nice idea for a series anyway!

From here (all deference for those who like or dislike opposite to me):
Anastacia: no idea!
Alannah Myles: Oh man, now there’s a childhood crush. LOVE that album! We grew up on that one…
Madonna: Mehhhh…
Verve: This one always makes me think of the Stones.
Coldplay: Mehhhh…
Gipsy Kings: Hells yes!
Glad you’ve been jamming the tunes, Vinnie! 🙂
