As of late, I’ve seen a lot of articles and talk of nudism. It seems to be something that divides a lot of people. I myself am curious about it, as I do sometimes practice it. But I want to know what everyone else out there makes of it. So I ask, what are your thoughts on nudism? And why do you have those opinions? I think this post will be a good one to listen and read what everyone thinks about it.

As you know I’m all for showing my naked ass on-line 😀 …………….. But I think nudism should be for adults only, and definitely NOT for children.Cover up and leave it to they’re age 18.

As I am often cold, I probably wouldn’t make a good nudist. At least not full time. However, I do have a pool and after dark in the summertime, all bets (and bathing suits) are off! 😀

To each their own. Could I/would I live in a nudist colony? No. Have I been to a nude beach? Yes. No, we don’t run our house naked now, we have three kids. Did I mind being nude all day on a weekend before kids? Nope.

I think it is better to be open minded rather than ignorant and oppositional. I think when some people think of nudism, they think of something seedy. When it is primarily about being comfortable in your body.

I’m going to be long winded. Go get coffee.
In terms of general nudity, I think we have to address HOW people think about nudity. We are creatures of pattern recognition. If someone is wearing a parka in July, we react. It breaks the pattern of expectation. Nudity throws off our North American concepts of societal norms. When we see a naked person, particularly a stranger, it is not a casual, everyday occurrence. We immediately try to categorize WHY they are naked. Have we wandered onto a nude beach? Do they desire a sexual encounter? Are they in distress? Are they making a political statement? Did the airline lose their luggage yet again and Walmart is closed?
We have different responses, ” When in Rome…” “Do you need help?” “Can I buy you a drink?” ” I agree, Fur coats are unnecessary” or “Damn, I wish my boobs were still that perky!”
If the naked person is of a gender which we usually find out sexual partners in and the only time we see that gender nude is as a prelude to sex, we will associate nakedness with sexual desire. Our personal physiological response exhibits that desire. In societies where nudity is the norm, the sexual connotations are not apparent and the response is not obvious.
As a witch, nudity can be part of some sacred circles. While I understand the reasons behind it, I find nudity in Circle a distraction. Where I spend most of my time it’s either winter or black fly season. Neither are condussive to a comfortable nudity so I prefer to wear a robe.
At home alone, clothing is optional depending on the weather. I live in the country so I am not scarring the neighbors. I tend to keep something I can throw on if the doorbell rings. In the winter, however, I am never naked. The house is too drafty and large to heat it to the point where clothing is an option.
Overall, I would say that my approach to nudity is one of simple practicality combined with personal intention.
That, and I’m too old and rotund to want to show off my physique. Only Rubens would find me pleasing in the buff.
Thanks for an interesting subject, Vinnieh.
BB,
Memy

Good question, and the answers will surely be varied. Me, I have no problem with it if it’s in your own home or in designated areas (like beaches). Do I really need to see people walking naked into restaurants and churches? No. So apparently I do have a line to not be crossed, but it just involves common sense. Unless everyone is nude all the time, at which point it wouldn’t matter, having it an option only some take amongst all the rest who don’t/wouldn’t isn’t really fair to those who don’t want to see all your everything. Which isn’t to say I’m ashamed of the human body – we all have one, no big deal. That said, I live in a climate where a good chunk of the year makes nudity less of an option. No one wants to be nude in a snow bank.

This is an interesting topic you’ve brought up Vinnie. I myself have never been comfortable with my own nudity, even in my younger skinnier days. Maybe it’s my Catholic upbringing combined with being raised in Massachusetts, home of the Puritans. That said, I completely understand the appeal and sense of freedom nudism gives to people.😊

Another thing that occurred to me, and I may be wrong about this, but it’s always seemed to me as though we here in the States tend to be more uptight when it comes to nudity, whether it’s our own, or in film, than our friends in Europe.

I think it also depends on how people define nudism. For example in Finland you get naked together in the sauna, have some drinks, talk about business there and what all else BUT it is strictly devided by gender. There are no mixed saunas in Finland except a handfull such as Sompa Sauna in Helsinki which is a very public sauna without even entry fees. Ofc the saunas at home have their own rules and is perfectly normal for a whole family to go naked together into their own sauna, but usually it is always only the own family. When you got visitors over it is once again strictly devided by gender, usually the women go first to sauna and wash and later the men.
Now as I used to be a swimmer I had contacts with other swimmers around the world. Oh dear how shocked the US Swimmers were when they saw that everyone was naked in the changing rooms or the showers 😮
I believe in North America nudism is often associated with sex…don’t know why but at least this is the impression I get from my friends over there.

I am both a shy person and one that is really sensitive to the cold, so I don’t practice nudism. Though I think that informed and consenting adults should be able to do what they want with their bodies and be respected.
I don’t like very much the idea of children among naked people, especially if they are not their parents but I think that is because of my Italian Catholic background. I also think that clothes have technical and protective functions and I thank the lycra of my bath suit to save my butt from being scratch by the sand, in the rare occasions I go to the beach 😜

I’m happy for people who want to be naked to do so in designated places, or on their own properties. I don’t really want to look at them myself though, or for that matter, at my own unattractive elderly body. I also freely admit that I find it very hard to look at naked women without a background sexual motive. That’s what I was brought up to understand, and that will never go away, like it or not.
Besides, I have only just got used to girls sunbathing topless on foreign beaches!
Cheers, Pete.

I think everyone should be able to live how they like wothout hurting others. I think nudity has become too sexualised. The move to make people, particularly women covered from foot to head has made nudity sexual. We only really see nudity when having sex or seeing secual scenes on screen or in magazines. A person naked in their garden is only a risk if they are being sexual and know that others are watching. I prefer to wear clothes as i think clothing is an expression of my personality, but I often walk naked around my home without a care, which is my right. The body is nstural and it shouldnt be shamed.

Nudism…to each their own, as a heavy set woman who has had 3 children I personally wouldn’t join the public nudist colony however before kids I’d walk around the house all day naked with my husband, but we can’t do that now. Especially with my boys if they walk in (they are 2 and 3) while I am changing they will yell “boobies”. Not good! Maybe if I felt better about myself I might. My husband on the other hand wants to live on a nudist beach he is all for it.

I think nudism or naturism as I sometimes call it puts us more in tune with nature and our surroundings. When the temperature is comfortable nude is a nice way to be and it certainly helps keep the laundry chore in check. I think it’s a shame that people get so worked up about a person’s state of dress in our society but not so much about things that really matter. It seems the textiles (folks who prefer clothing) are more often the ones who impose their will on others rather than the other way around. Nudists tend to be more the live and let live types. In other words, you hear people complaining “He or she should put more clothes on.” from one side of the fire than you hear “We need more naked people.” from the other usually. At least that’s been my observation. I’m all about freedom, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

I have spent more time naked in the past two years than I have for the past 6 decades. I starts to visit a local spa for the sauna and hot tub. No clothing allowed in the “men’s wet area”. A bit awkward at first, I carried my towel in a way that provided modest cover. By the time I finished my first visit, modesty was out the window and I felt freedom and liberated. Now, when I get home from a spa day I take my clothes back off as it is so much more comfortable. In the summer, I will try to regularly spend a few hours in the yard absorbing my vitamin D with every part of my skin. It is difficult for people to understand why others would do it until they do it and then they know why they do it :). I don’t know why I let culture make me feel there was something wrong with it for over half a century. It is like I don’t see life through a societal filter any more. Kind of like when Neo sees the Matrix for the first time. A real revelation of being a human being and a whole new mental clarity. I’ll never go back. It is to rewarding to my inner man.
