So I thought it was about time, I did a questionnaire for my followers of random questions. Some of them will be film related, some could be naughty and some could be intriguing. Here goes nothing:

1. Nothing. I always think a different view on a film is interesting. Even if it’s terrible, it wont take anything away from the original.
2. Many of them are. They really gotta stop focusing on baiting people by giving everything away and start focusing on ways to show off what the film is about without ruining it, which is what a trailer should be.
3. Many factors go into what the best position is, including partner and location.
4. Tomb Raider. My love for Angelina Jolie started there.
5. In some ways I’d like to, but I think it would get boring after a few goes round. I’m open to may beliefs, can’t know anything for certain to I settle for many maybes.
6. Definitely my sarcasm.
7. They are all so wonderful and versatile, I couldn’t possibly narrow it down to just one. I guess variations of ‘fuck’ are my most commonly used ones.
8. Intense emotions. I don’t particularly care what emotions, be it joy or fear or mushy lovey dovey crap, whatever it is, as long as I feel something strongly then it’s done a good job. Even if I intensely despise it, because if it’s a bad film them I will just be very bored and neutral. but if I hate it, then it obviously did something to get to me, which is far better than doing nothing at all.
9. Yes. Terrible idea. Probably better in summer than winter.
10. Gore and guts. Who doesn’t love a good slasher?

I really like the amount of detail you’ve put into your answers. Emotions is a key one for me when watching a film, I want to feel at least something. And like you the f word is pretty much my favourite curse word.

I seem to prefer teaser trailers because they give you just enough without going overboard. Haha, still collecting data, that made me laugh. Bollocks is a classic naughty word.

1. Any Stanley Kubrick, Ingmar Bergman, Andrei Tarkovsky or von Trier film. The Godfather trilogy, Taxi Driver, Breathless, Vertigo… I’m gonna stop here because I could go on forever, but you get the gist: I don’t like remakes.

4. I haven’t really fancied a star since I was a teenager so this will be a pretty unoriginal one – .Louis Garrel in The Dreamers.

8. Everything. Screenplay, directing, editing, soundtrack, acting… All of those things need to work in order for a film to be good.

I’m of the opinion that trailers should retain mystery, or else what’s the point in watching the film? You are exceptionally smart Rob. You’re the second person to say 69. Dialogue is a must when I’m watching a movie.

Only speak the truth 😉 watch some trailers from the 80’s and ull see that its possible to make a great trailer without ruining anything. Check out the teaser for bttf. So simple yet genius. Love movie dialogue despite the fact that my memory for quotes is ususlly shit. Don’t knock it til uve tried it 😉

This was a popular post, V. Here are my answers, bearing in mind my age…
1) I hate all remakes as a rule. (There are some exceptions) But I have a bad feeling that some smart-arse is going to take on ‘Leon’, and completely fuck it up.
2) Trailers have always shown the best bits, even when I was very young. I try to avoid watching them.
3) A BJ of course. I have never had a bad one, (so far) and satisfaction is guaranteed every time!
4) ‘Pandora’s Box’. (1929) I have been lusting after Louise Brooks ever since.
5) No. I don’t believe in anything religious or spiritual.
6) I have to go with my legs. The rest of me has collapsed but they look pretty good, and still work!
7) I am known to frequently utter “For Fuck’s sake!” (Often about remakes…See Q1)
8) Probably if it is made in a foreign language…Most of my favourites are from abroad.
9) I stripped off in the sea in Crete once, with my ex-wife. And yes, we had a fiddle…

Any movie that got it right the first time(2016 Ghostbusters and 2004 Dawn of the Dead were good, but really didn’t have to be there)

There used to be an artform to trailers to get people into cinemas. Christopher Nolan and David Fincher are the few that tease the audience to see their films.

Ran is incredible. That’s a great first one to see! Never seen King Lear quite so awesome before. 😉
Here’s a plan: Set aside an evening (207 minutes = 3 hours 27 minutes!), make sure you have refreshments and no need to move off the couch for that whole time, and no distractions. Seriously, no pausing the movie for anything! Unplug your phone, hole up in front of your TV… then watch Seven Samurai. Oh man. OH MAN! One of the greatest EVER.

1. Aliens. Sigourney Weaver’s performance is perfection and every element worked so well that I don’t think it could be improved.
2. They do seem to more often these days, which is a shame. Short teasers work well, I think.

4. I’d never really noticed just how attractive Chris Pratt was until Jurassic World.

Weaver owns the role of Ripley and I can’t imagine anything matching it. I will agree that Pratt is a handsome dude. I love a good soundtrack to a film, it can be hugely effective in getting a reaction from me. Surely there’s some good places to skinny dip in Scotland.

1) I’m generally pretty open to remakes as a concept, if they do something new with it. It’s the lack of originality that does them in. That said, Se7en is perfect, and you just know if they’d remade it they’d actually show what’s in the box.
2) I love a good trailer, but some definitely go too far.
3) After seeing the Kama Sutra positions they did on The Americans, I feel under-qualified to comment.
4) Generally, “whatever I last watched” is a good answer to this!
5) Sadly not.
6) I’m impressed by my own puns. I’m not sure anyone else is.
7) Obviously “fuck” is super versatile. I’m quite fond of muttering “Christ on a bike”, though. Not sure where that comes from!
8) Commitment to what it’s doing. That’s why ‘trashy’ movies can be better than worthy ones, because they accept what they are and go for it.

1. I don’t think any film should be remade.
2. Yes. I think a trailer should short, and only show enough to tease an audience to watch the film. Batman V Superman was the ultimate disaster trailer. It showed far too much of the film.

I hate how much trailers give away. Such an extent I don’t mind missing them. I’d hate to see Bridge on the River Kwai remade, but if they ever did The Godfather it would feel like the end of movies. A great premise. For me that’s what it all comes down to.

Which film would you hate to see remade? The big Spielberg Films. Honestly I don’t care too much about studios wasting millions on remakes, although I find many of them unnecessary. I won’t watch them unless I’m really curious.
Do you think that trailers are spoiling movies by revealing too much? Not necessarily, although some of the trailers from the 80’s did exactly that! My beef is with the amount of trailers and teasers and teaser trailers that are released to create hype. They really overwhelm me and make me not want to watch some films.
What movie made you fancy one of its stars? Sandra Bullock in SPEED. Although then I turned out to be gay, so who knows what that was about..

I would hate to see Gone with the Wind … in a remake.. leave well enough alone… I agree with you on the Godfather as well.. Don’t touch that! I have the complete D.V.D. set and love each and every one…
Plus while watching that great movie I eat a bowl of spaghetti with a side of garlic bread..
Gone with the Wind I have Southern fried chicken and hush-puppies… Both of these foods are a must to round out a great evening watching those beloved movies…

Do you think that trailers are spoiling movies by revealing too much? – Absolutely, the recent trailer to Inferno is a main example, but things can go even further. Dream House (2011) with Daniel Craig, Naomi Watts and Rachel Weisz is THE movie which has been spoiled by a trailer by revealing EVERY twist and turn there is possible to reveal.
What is your favourite sex position? – Omg, I cannot believe I see this question here 🙂
What movie made you fancy one of its stars? I have this soft spot for Alec Baldwin in the Getaway (1994) *blushing*

I think trailers should give an indication of mood, quality of dialogue and performance and maybe a money shot. I think The Force Awakens and Suicide Squad trailers were good examples of trailers that did not give away the plot but got you excited about the type of film you would see. Also I think The Force Awakens was wonderfully meta about tapping into nostalgia. Other good trailers that come to mind are The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (remake), Argo, Flight and recently Sully.

4.What movie made you fancy one of its stars?
It’s probably well documented my admiration of Jennifer Garner and in particular she was kinda stunning in Daredevil. Yet Where the Heart is gave me a new appreciation for Natalie Portman back in 2001 but those women already destined for my Top 5. Perhaps a better example of this would be Lucia Moniz in Love Actually. That film made me fancy that woman. Not just in a basic animal sense either but a kind of awe for her beauty in those scenes.

I believe in God but anything is possible.
6.What do you think is your best feature? My ass was the last thing to go. Now when somebody asks I just say my wife.

If you can connect with the audience that is the key. Whether that is something insightful, ‘real’, funny, amusing, pretty, nostalgiac will depend. I’d like to think a good script with interesting characters, smart dialogue, evocative direction and something to say about the human condition will win on the day. But if you like Xanadu then you like Xanadu. Fuck anybody who judges you for that.
9.Have you ever skinny dipped before? I’ve done a nuddy run or two or three but no skinny dipping. I did strip down to my underwear at a big party and run around in those quite a bit. Nobody was impressed for some reason but I was when I made a jump from a balcony into the shallow end of a pool and survived.
10.And finally, what would you like to see me cover on my blog? You’re doing such a great job Vinneh I’d just say keep up the good work. If you ever travel though and think you have something interesting to say about that I’d be curious to read that.

Thanks for the opportunity to use that punchline for the sex question. I couldn’t resist. I’m now part of an ongoing relationship so I don’t really want to discuss my current sex life as that has the potential to reflect on someone else but let’s say long ago in the distant past I would say that a woman’s back while riding in cowgirl position was something I always enjoyed seeing. For the actual deed I must insist variety is the spice of life but the intimacy and comfort of missionary was always a favourite during that time. As for whether my tastes have changed well I’m afraid the answer to that will remain the sole knowledge of my beloved.

In certain film sites commenters would often begin with “Say what you will about Tom Cruise but he always brings his A Game or always gives 110%”. It happened so much it’s become a bit of a running gag. Jessica Chastain is a fine actress, when I eventually see her in a film I don’t like I still care to wager I will enjoy her performance.
