I thought it would be good for me to list what I’ve been watching of late, but not as reviews but little snippets of information and feelings. A lot of what I talk about watching will no doubt later become reviews for my site. So everyone keep your eyes posted for some of the things that I list here. That isn’t to say that I will definitely be reviewing everything I talk about, but they will no doubt influence future content.
So lately I’ve been watching:
Mad Men:
I completed the show last night and wow is the word. I was so immersed in the show and didn’t want it to end. Mad Men truly is one of my favourite shows and one of the most stylish and well-written series to be aired.
The works of Zalman King:
The purveyor of the erotic genre, Zalman King’s movies and also television work may be sniffed at by some, but I’ve fully been digging them. Recently I got a copy of Season 1 of Red Shoe Diaries, and it’s really hot stuff. And that’s saying something, with the weather where I am warm, I’ve needed to take a few showers after watching some of the steamy antics.
Period Dramas:
I’ll freely admit to being a fan of period dramas. I find that exploring the way people used to live and the historical context highly intriguing. Plus, production wise period dramas always look so beautiful and well-designed, yet the best ones never forget a good narrative or characters.
I’ll be sure to do many more posts like this in the future so feel free to leave me some feedback.

Interesting. I never got into Mad Men myself, but I do remember that David Duchovny was on Red Shoe Diaries, although I don’t think I ever saw any of the episodes.
I just binged my way through London Spy on Netflix. It was only five episodes but once I started I got through it in a day and a half! I’m also watching Penny Dreadful and Season 2 of the Danish/Swedish show The Bridge. And I just started watching this new Aussie sci-fi series called Cleverman.

I think I’d struggle to see Duchovny as anything other than Mulder. I’ve only seen him on X-Files and Zoolander, although I spotted Aquarius on Netflix which I am intrigued by.

I haven’t watched ‘Mad Men’ yet, and try to avoid too much erotica at my age…
I’m with you on a good period drama though, V. Something British TV (and film) does very well.
Best wishes, Pete.

You just gotta watch Mad Men, it’s that good. And a bit of erotica is good every now and then, right? One thing you can always rely on us Brits for is a good period drama.

Nothing wrong with erotica mate. I just have to be careful not to steam up my reading glasses!

It’s a bit of a Les-fest, V, wrapped up in a pretty good gangster film too.
Both top marks in my class!

Mad Men…brilliant. Did you like the ending ? Some did not. I thought it was pretty perfect, I remember that ad so well. ☺

I liked the ending, Don appeared to have found some peace yet advertising was still a part of his life.

I read that the creator of the show had that very ad in mind from the beginning. ☺ It was a surprise to me, but made so much sense.

I never saw Mad Men, then again. It’s hard for me to get started on a show and be invested by it. Red Shoe Diaries…. ah…. going back to my teenage years in the 1990s where it was the thing to watch on Showtime. The women were so beautiful in those days and I stayed up late a lot during those weekends not just for the show but also the plethora of softcore porn films as I consider it the Golden Age of Softcore Porn. The stories weren’t entirely great but they were at least engaging enough to be good and they also looked good visually. As someone that wants to make films, they are a primary influence in the stuff that I want to do.
I do like period dramas but it all depends on the story and whoever is doing it as well as providing a unique take on it. After all, I just saw Love & Friendship this past weekend and I enjoyed every minute of it.

I think that’s a fair move as it always women who are exposed more than men. The only thing that guys seem to show is ass. With regards to Red Shoe Diaries, I got the firt season box set but now I see that a certain YouTube channel has many episodes. And as you said, it has some seriously sexy and steamy scenes.

When my friend, B and I were about thirteen we used to watch The Red Shoe Diaries in her bedroom with the sound off so her parents wouldn’t catch us. It was indeed very racy stuff and also somewhat educational as we were rather clueless and innocent back in those days.

I freely admit Mad Men goes over my head but I love it. I’d read Matt Zoller Seitz reviews over at Vulture after each episode to figure out what the hell was going on but it would never fail to reasonate. It doesn’t rest on its laurels either as time goes on and everybody ages and the decade changes the show does too. The final episodes were oddly moving. There’s a moment where there in the diner Peggy, Angels’ kid Connor and Don and I was happy to see them together finally at peace with one another. I knew it couldn’t be where the show ended but I found the finale satisfying. Where are you up to Vinnie?
