Christmas Movie Watching, James Bond, Meet Me in St. Louis, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without movie watching, right? So in this post I will speak of the cinematic offerings I will watch as Christmas draws closer and if anyone has any suggestions, please leave them in the comment section.
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy:
The epic fantasy saga is high on my list and the best way to enjoy the movies is a full marathon of all three as they flow so well together. My reviews for the three films are here to read. The Fellowship of the Ring , The Two Towers and The Return of the King. For epic viewing on a huge scale during the festive season, you can’t go wrong here.
Any Bond movie:
Nothing beats kicking back and watching super spy James Bond foil evil plans and nefarious minds. My Bond Recap is probably proof enough that I’m a James Bond nut of the highest level.
This heartwarming musical has been a firm favourite from a young age thanks to my grandparents. A playful family film that features stunning design, splendid musical numbers and lovely work from Judy Garland, it is bound to warm the cockles as the cold weather sets in.
These will be the main films I will watch but I’m sure there will be plenty more for viewing. What are you watching over the festive season?

Nice list! I know Dr. No is on ITV over Christmas.
My list contains Home Alone 1 & 2, Love Actually, Elf, The Holiday, Santa Claus: The Movie, Miracle on 34th Street, Christmas Vacation, Die Hard, The Polar Express. And probably some others that are on TV. Can’t beat a good Christmas film! 🙂

Interesting that they aren’t really Christmas films. My dad doesn’t mind watching Christmas films outside of season. Are you the same?

Haha, I know but for some reason they’ve become staples for Christmas viewing.

I guess there’s never a bad time to watch them. How do you decide what Bond to see when putting one on? There are more non-Christmas Christmas films than you might realise https://alexraphael.wordpress.com/2013/12/19/film-quizzes-christmas/

Just sat through Polar Express on TV, with my grandson. What a load of crap that is!
I will stick with Dumbo and Jungle Book, and maybe the original Miracle On 34th Street, for the festive season.
Bond and LOTR at yours? Thanks for not inviting me mate…
Have a great time, but there’s still three weeks to go!
Take care, V. Pete.

I’ve just written a similar post, combining films and songs. Agreed in LotR marathon, when else do you have time?! And Meet Me in St. Louis got an honourable mention because it includes one of my favourite Christmas songs!
I wonder if you’d agree with any of my other suggestions? I’d highly recommend Rare Exports for a different, fantasy horror perspective!

Great choices! I really feel like I need to give the Extended Editions of LOTR a proper watch again over Christmas. As only watched them on Sky recently when they have been on.
No Bond for me, I’m still getting over the Bondathon 😉 haha

All good picks — a LotR marathon is certainly never a bad idea.
I tend to play my Christmas viewing by ear, so who knows what I’ll be watching! I do intend to finally watch It’s a Wonderful Life this year… but then I say that every year.

Christmas tradition to watch Lord of the Rings. Mainly because it always reminds the family of the excitement and time when we saw all three films at the cinema during the festive season. Plus Christmas TV is not what it use to be and you can’t go wrong with LOTR!

I’ll admit I was late to LOTR, I was really young when they first were released and I didn’t have the knowledge I have now. But once I saw them a few years ago, I knew they were special movies and now some of my favourites.

You can’t go wrong with Bond over Christmas, although I tend to favour the Connery and Moore offerings. In fact I still haven’t seen any of the Daniel Craig Bond films, it’s probably time I put that right.
The Italian Job and The Great Escape bring back fond memories of the Christmases of my childhood, and I always try and watch When Harry Met Sally or The Fabulous Baker Boys on New Year’s Eve if I’m not out and about.

Interesting choices, I haven’t watched the LOTR films in a while, I should check it out soon. I’ll probably be rewatching all of the Star Wars films again, and some more classic choices like Nightmare Before Christmas, Edward Scissorhands, Iron Man 3, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and maybe a few others if I’m lucky.

We did LOTR for New Year’s Eve last year. It was really fun. It’s hard to predict what I’ll be watching over Christmas since we’ll be with Mr O’s family and we kind of have to pick stuff that everyone will enjoy. It’s always fun though!

So glad “Meet Me in St. Louis” made your list. A great movie any time of year… I always get a little misty when Judy Garland sings “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”.
Two perennial faves for me are “Christmas in Connecticut” and “Miracle on 34th Street”. I can’t help myself!

Excellent list Vinster. I just finished The Hobbit trilogy funnily enough! (obviously not as good as LOTR)
My Christmas viewing will ALWAYS involve Home Alone, Love Actually and The Office Christmas Specials 🙂
I watch those in the build-up beforehand. Then on Christmas Day itself I predict that I’ll watch at least one Carry On film and at least one On the Buses TV special!!!!
