I was so sad when I just read that Wes Craven had passed away at the age of 76 after battling brain cancer. His movies where so influential on the horror genre, from A Nightmare on Elm Street to the Scream series. Although I’m deeply saddened by the news, I know that I can at least remember the horror maestro through his consummate work as a director and that his films and legacy will live on. Rest in Peace Wes Craven and thanks for all the movies you gave us.

It gets worse as you get older, V. All the people you take for granted suddenly get ill, or old, and they start to die off.
At least Wes left behind something that will endure. Say ‘Wes Craven’, and everyone will have a connection to those films.
Cheers mate, Pete.

You must not dread it, V. Despite the drawbacks, you will have much to look back on, and hopefully have acquired wisdom too. And you will probably live a lot longer than those of us who go before you, given the advances in medicine and technology.
Lot’s more to do yet before you have to worry about it, my friend.
Best wishes, Pete.

I was really surprised to hear about this when I woke up. Wes Craven, while I’ve never really watched too much of his material becuase it falls into the horror catergory (a genre I rarely watch), I do appreciate what he was able to bring to horror and the ways he changed the game and created such iconic characters and moments in film. I’ve only seen the Scream films and The People Under The Stairs, but I have a lot of nostalgic appreciation for the first two Scream films and TPUTS.

Oh my god I’m utterly shocked! I’ve been so swamped with school and my health crap that I haven’t been keeping up with the news at all. I had no idea he passed away. What a loss. He was amazing. I hope his suffering wasn’t too unbearable…

Yeah me neither! He will be sorely missed. I’ve always been a thrill/horror junkie. Ever since I was a tiny little girl…

Great post. This is sad news, he was one of a kind. I know we all have to go sometime, but it still sucks.
And this on the same day that Oliver Sacks died. Also of cancer. You know what? F**k cancer.

I followed him on Twitter and until just a couple of days ago he was still sending out tweets with no mention that he was ill. There was a ‘Last House on the Left’ reunion of the original cast members that took place here in Austin just a few years back and the entire cast was able to attend. Now just a few years later 3 of them are already dead. Sad.
