Today is Mother’s Day, a day to honor to all the beautiful, strong and protective women in the world. It got me thinking about the many examples of matriarchs in the movies. Today’s question is, who is your favourite mother in film? With such a wide array of choices from countless genres and so many talented and caring women who have populate the cinematic universe, I expect to get a very diverse response. So if you have an opinion please give it.
Who is your favourite Cinematic Mother?

My pick is Sally Field in Forrest Gump. She plays the character so well and is just overall likeable.

I’m going for Anjelica Houston in The Grifters, for very different reasons from those mentioned by TheMarckoguy. A more complex and morally mixed up lady it would be hard to find.

I’m torn between Sarah Connor fierce tiger Mom or noble loving Marmee from Little Women

Both excellent choices, Connor for her protective and fierce personality, and Marmee for her warmth and depth.

Nice choices Marta. I know Steel Magnolias is supposed to be a chick flick, but I’ll admit I cried watching some of it.

Got to go with Ann-Margaret as the Mum in ‘Tommy’. Not a great role perhaps, but she looked so good!
Good idea, V. Should be an appealing post today.

I think it depends on where you are in the world, it is Mother’s Day in England. But it’s probably on a different date in other countries.

Elastigirl from The Incredibles. I’d also like to say Molly Weasley, but she originally comes from a book.

I am going to go a bit mushy and choose Maria Portakis from My Big Fat Greek Wedding.

If surrogate mothers count, I’d like to make a case for Miss Honey from ‘Matilda.’

The one from The Incredibles is a great shout. Trying to add a new option, the one from Changeling is another one that stood out.

That’s a great choice, she’s one of those mother’s whose love for her child helps drive her through a mind field of corruption and lies.
