Happy Valentine’s Day everyone. After the great response to my sexiest movie scenes post, I decided as it’s the day of love to do another question post on celluloid romance. The question today is, what are your favourite romantic scenes in the movies? This can be from a tender kiss or loving gesture to a passionate encounter, but it has to be romantic in some sort of way. With decades worth of nostalgic and loving moments to choose from and the gamut of genres running from comedy to drama, please give your answers. And as I said earlier, Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone.
The kiss between Janes Stewart and Donna reed in It’s a Wonderful Life while Stewart is talking on the phone.

That’s a great moment to choose man from a lovely film as well.

Many apologies for this clip ……because I hate the film. I would how ever watch it all the way through for this one moment. It is sheer romance…. and those hands!!! http://youtu.be/1YGfrGKK9Mo

I had a feeling Titanic and this specific scene would get a mention.

It is a romantic scene to say the least and as you say, those hands.

The kiss between Ryan Gosling and Carey Mulligan in Drive. It is so deep and thoughtful and multi-layered.

Interesting choice, especially considering what happens after the kiss.

Oh yes. But what happens after adds to the layered and thoughtful nature of the kiss itself.

The first one I can think of is from Bram Stoker’s Dracula with Gary Oldman and Winona Ryder. There are a few good scenes in it, but I particularly love “I have crossed oceans of time to find you” as well as “I love you too much to condemn you.” But I also really love the proposal scene from 2011’s Jane Eyre with Michael Fassbender and Mia Wasikowska. The two actors are brilliant and I love Jane’s reluctant belief that Mr. Rochester truly does love her. It feels like a dream come true. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ard8hElhUY4

Thanks, yeah the love that Dracula has for Mina is very deep and he describes it with such a poetic quality. I have yet to watch the 2011 version of Jane Eyre, but thanks for the recommendation as I’m sure I’ll enjoy it.

That is such a lovely moment, the mist and the swelling score really do add a lot to the scene.
