With the recent success of Skyfall, I decided to do another post on an aspect of the franchise. Whenever I go to see a Bond movie, I am always looking forward to the title sequence. It is one of those things that really puts you in the mood for the movie and establishes everything about the movies; the girls, the guns and the action. Over the years since Maurice Binder blazed a trail with his innovative work, the title sequences have become an integral part to the franchise. So todays question is what are your favourite title sequences from the Bond movies and why? Whatever your opinion please give it.
What are your favourite James Bond title sequences?

I love most of them, especially Skyfall. I don’t really have a favorite though. I do remember hating Die Another Day’s with a passion, though.

Thanks, yeah I really enjoyed the way Skyfall’s title sequence interweaved many elements from the story into it.

Goldfinger’s one is great, but I think I’d put Skyfall up there as well. Nice post.

I’d be tempted to pick one by Robert Brownjohn (GOLDFINGER), one by Maurice Binder (THE SPY WHO LOVED ME) and one by Daniel Kleinman (DIE ANOTHER DAY despite the awful song) – they are all clearly Bond title sequences but all feel very different too,

Well, I would say my favorite sequence was from “Casino Royale” as soon as the opening credits finish rolling. B/c Bond was completing his initiation into the 00 group on the opening sequence before the opening credits there wasn’t much action….so b/c that sequence was necessary to build the story it didn’t provide much punch…but they were saving the typical action-packed opening for the scene after the rolling credits in which I thought was perhaps the most amazing action sequence of the entire franchise. The one of course where Bond chases the criminal down who was played by Parkour (free running) creator Sebastien Foucan; the scene was basically a game of Parkour through a construction site and then makes it’s way on top of rafters a thousand feet in the sky. It was just one of those scenes that wouldn’t let up, and it really set the stage for a new-and-improved, grittier Bond franchise.

Skyfall recently really impressed me. The best ones work elements of the plot into the visuals, something I think became more common in the 90s – the Brosnon ones are great (with the exception of Die Another Day), and from memory, Goldfinger and Live and Let Die are really iconic.
I’m not a huge fan of Casino Royale’s new design, though I love the intro into the sequence, and I don’t like For your Eyes Only much (you see the singer singing, which is odd)

Thanks, yeah Skyfall did have a good one. I also like when elements of the plot are incorporated into the sequences.

Hm, tough one but in terms of the classic run I’d say ‘Thunderball’ which I feel is the first truly refined Bond title sequence (the titles for ‘Dr. No’, ‘From Russia With Love’ and ‘Goldfinger’ are experimental, like works in progress in a sense).
For the modern era I’d have to go with ‘Skyfall’ (although Casino and Quantum’s titles are pretty good) – very atmospheric and evokes the themes of the film perfectly.

Between Skyfall and Goldfinger. Skyfall gets it on the bonus point of the song being so good, especially as there had been some poor ones in the previous films.

I think I might have to go with Skyfall because for some reason the grittiness, the darkness that it contains, it somehow has attracted me. And if you look closely to the sequence, there’s a lot of hints somehow of what’s to come on the story like a grave… to name a few.

I haven’t seen much Bond films but I liked Skyfall very much and saw it for Javier Bardem’s performance. He never disappoints.
