Horror movies are one of my all time favourite genres. Whether it’s gory or more psychological, I usually like it( although there are a few exceptions). Anyway, I’m writing this post to find out which horror movies people love and the reasons behind them. So go ahead and think, which movie creeps me out the most or which movie sends shivers down my spine?
What is your favourite horror movie and why?

The movie that gave me my biggest fear is Rosemary’s baby. Im not sure if you’ve seen this film but it’s creepy an it’s entirety. Not just being a scary movie it’s also an amazing film.

“Psycho” is my favourite “horror” movie, as I prefer the more “psychological” approach rather than “gore”. Hitchcock with the aid of Bernard Hermann’s splendid music builds the suspense right at the start and continues the pressure until the murderer is revealed and then adds a further sense of unease in the final scene.
I remember seeing this film in a theatre when it was first released upon the public, and recall the shocked reaction of the audience in the now famous scene.

I love Psycho, but The Shining has to be my absolute favorite horror film. It’s one of the few horror films that I could watch over and over again and still love.

Definetly Alien. It always scares the crap out of me and it has all the great elements of horror – scary creature, strong heroine, a place that is hard to escape from and all of those cool, creepy details hidden in set design.

A movie that I saw about 2 years ago scarred me for life. That movie is Rosemary’s Baby. This movie is creepy all through out, and it’s not only creepy but it’s also an amazing film. My fear of cults came from this film. Lol

A great choice of a horror film, I always used to find it scary because it’s filmed in the most normal of places and a lot of it seeems like it could happen

If I had to pick only one, which is a hard task in itself, it would have to be Jaws. That film scared me when I was a kid and still does to this very day, especially that haunting soundtrack. The entire film is just unsettling to say the least. A great horror flick.

Great pick, it always used to scare me when I was younger.

Jaws is. It’s not really a horror film, but that opening always scares me. I haven’t actually seen The Shining sadly, but I’ll get to that. Nice post.

Tough choices for me, this is my genre. Psycho ranks up there for me – creepy, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween are a couple more creepy movies.
Poltergeist creeped me out as a kid and as an adult.

If I’m going to talk about a horror film that is actually a good movie, I have to go with The Shining. But as far as B movie horror, which is what I spend most of my time watching, I’d say 2000 Maniacs or Mr. Vampire. Great question!

I watch little horror, so I’m not familiar with this genre. I think my top favorite has to be Alien because of the tension, great story and fantastic performance from Sigourney. Others that quite impressed me are The Exorcist and Halloween. Would give them all a 5 star rating.

My favorite horror movie is ”The Shining” because: 1) It’s after a Stepehn King novel; 2) Jack Nicholson stars in it; 3) It’s the perfect combination of psychological scare and blood-gore; 4) The storyline is not very complicated, but it still gives you something to think about at the end; 5) The scare factor and suspense are somewhat high (in my opinion)… That’s kind of it…

Thanks, I would say the Shining is one of my favourite horror movies. I used to always be creeped out by the twin ghosts.

The Shining easily is my favorite but the last movie that really freaked me out was The Descent.

I’ve always had a hard time picking my favorite horror movie and I just consider it tie between the original versions of Halloween and House on Haunted Hill. They were both spooky, but I also liked them because they had very little violence and no blood. I don’t mind those things being in movies, but I appreciate the fact that these two didn’t feel the need to go overboard with it. It would kind of be like a modern day adult comedy without the profanity.

For sheer visceral horror, and the movie that probably replayed unpleasantly in my mind the most afterwards, I’d go The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974, Tobe Hooper). For actual favourite I’d have to join the majority vote for The Shining, however honorable mentions definitely go to Alien, The Wicker Man (again, the original), Eraserhead, Suspiria and Audition (to my mind the last truly great horror film to be made). I’m also a sucker (pun intended) for Nosferatu, both the 1922 F W Murnau version and the 1979 Werner Herzog remake. Both soaked in Gothic atmosphere.

This is a hard pick for me because this is totally my genre…I love the entire Nightmare on Elm Street series (I own all of them except for the remake plus two documentaries). But A Tale of Two Sisters? It’s a South Korean film and I find everything about it to be just perfect. Every time I watch I find something new. It’s creepy, not very gory and very atmospheric.

I’d have to also pick Jaws (although it’s so hard to choose just one!) My dad used to take us to the beach every weekend during the summer, and I loved going in the water, but after seeing Jaws, I was absolutely petrified to even put a toe in! “We’re gonna need a bigger boat!”

An excellent choice Kim, still a very good horror film even after all these years.

I have to admit I like the second one also. After that they just get silly!😕

I’ve never seen any of the others and to be honest, I don’t think I will.

The second one definitely wasn’t as good as the original, but I still thought it was pretty good. And watching Roy Schnieder face off with the shark one more time, was awesome!

I don’t think anything could match the original.
