I woke up this morning to the news that John Mahoney had passed away at the age of 77. For me he was a great actor, the role I’ll most remember him for is as Martin Crane in Frasier. As the blunt and sarcastic father of the title character, he would often steal the show with his witticisms. He will be dearly missed by so many and Frasier will live long in the hearts of fans everywhere.

I noticed this on a news site this morning and I was saddened by it as I really loved him in Frasier. Truth be told I can’t think what else he has been in but that doesn’t matter.

I was expecting to see some tributes, when I heard the news. He was a solid character actor (British-born too) who made some standout appearances in many big films.

Such a sad loss. Frasier is still my all-time comedy show, I’d always ask for the latest box set for a birthday / Christmas present. High time for a re-watch.

I’m not sure how old he was during Frasier. I assumed he was older because of his white hair.

I have never really seen Frasier, but like Fraggle I do recognise him. It’s always a shame when a beloved actor dies. But yeah, 77 definitely isn’t that old 😢 Sad news indeed.

Frasier is a class show, pure comedy gold. 77 in this day and age is not old at all.

Definitely one of the best character actors ever as my favorite performance from him is being Diane Court’s father in Say Anything… as a good man who unfortunately does bad things to give his daughter a good life.

He really did seem a lovely guy. He did other great work, but yes he’ll always be Frasier’s dad to me. Such sad news. Always looked so young.
